A Very Special Italian Wine Tasting
The tiny region of Valtellina has historically been more renowned for their Nebbiolo than even the current king, Barolo. Located near the Swiss-Italian border in Lombardy, these vineyards are some of highest altitude red wine vineyards in Europe. The production is very small and availability in the US has always been scarce. This is widely regarded as the top producer of the region and Louisiana has only just received a small allocation. The grapes are grown on some of the oldest terraced vineyards constructed worldwide, legendarily by an ancient red-haired race known as the Liguri people. These wines show the possibility of a softer, younger drinking, more delicate Nebbiolo. One that drinks more like it looks. It is light but it ages just as well as Barolo. The diversity of soil type is represented by the different crus of Sassella, Grumello, and Inferno. We will feature all of these at the tasting. I have been pushing distributors in LA to pick this producer up for a couple years and I am happy someone ponied up! These wines are already sold out from the distributor so what we have is all of it. Come taste something special.
